Random Ranting: No-Goes in Social Behaviour

annebx:

You know what’s one of the worst things during an exam? Sitting next to a very impatient person who wants to hand in his/her paper but can’t because you’re sitting in his/her way.

I had such a situation today and I nearly freaked out! I wrote a Latin test and I sat somewhere in the middle of the seat row. Our teacher told us that we were not allowed to hand in our paper if someone has to get up to let us through and would therefore be disturbed in his writing. Doesn’t seem to be big problem, right? Seems to be fair, right?

Well, to some people waiting seems to be the most terrible thing in the world. The girl to the right of me finished her test very early, as well as my two left neighbours. The two on the left could leave immediately because they were sitting on the side. After they left, I was the only barrier between the girl and her exit. But I still needed time and I mean, what’s wrong with still needing time to work on your exam if barely half of the time given is over? Nothing, right? However, she seemed to have another opinion on that. She started sighing all the time, moving nervously on her seat, checking the time, and so on. That’s what I call nonverbal communications! She indirectly told me: “Girl, I wanna go! So hurry up! I don’t care about your exam. I’m just pissed cuz it takes you so long to work on it. I mean, I’ve already finished it and I wanna go and don’t waste my time sitting here because you are so slow! Are you dumb or something?” I know she didn’t say that (and I know it’s exaggerated), but that was what I felt she communicated to me. Suddenly she asked me, “Are you finished?”, and I just answered “Nearly!”, just to keep her calm (and to keep me calm as well…). But seriously, if I’m still sitting there, reading my text, checking everything, does it look as if I’m finished? Was that a rhetorical question or something?

Anyways, I hurried up, handed in my test after a short while and she could finally dash out of the room without saying anything. You know what’s the problem? I felt guilty because she couldn’t leave and I thought that I had to work faster so that she could go. But in reality she should have felt guilty for making me so nervous. I mean, it’s not my fault that I needed more time than her and if she is in a hurry, she shouldn’t take a seat in the middle of the row! Seriously!

I don’t wanna say that I’m making no mistakes when it comes to social behaviour, but that was just inappropriate! And I can tell you, being patient with impatient people is really hard!

After the test, I could finally go home. While waiting for the bus, I listened to some 12- or 13-year-old girls talking and making jokes about each other. Suddenly, one of the girls said to another, “You Haiti victim!!”, and I was clearly perplexed and shocked! (Maybe I should add (for all my foreign readers ;) ) that a lot of German teenagers use the term “You victim!” as a (very weird!?) insult.) Are you serious? That’s definitely nothing you should make fun of! More than 200.000 people died. Imagine your family would have been part of these. Would it still be that funny?

I sometimes just can’t understand why people are acting in such a way! I was so angry at the moment I heard it and I really wanted to turn around and give these girls a tongue-lashing (take them, shake them, try to awake them) but I wasn’t self-confident enough for that and I guess they wouldn’t have taken me seriously anyways.

What a day! Thank God that there are not only people of the kind above, but also a lot of good, nice, patient, and respectful people in the world!

agh anne you are soo soo right.. i just thought about the same thing the other day and i just noticed that social behaviour equals with egoism.. you know thats just sad people cant wait if its not their problem.. :( and about the Opfer thing.. man.. kids these days are.. “difficult” me too i would have not said anything cause they would probably not get your point.. but now a days i think about what would have happenened if i was a bit more self confident to say something to people right in their face.. like you said its not everybody like this.. and my social behaviour is inapropriate too sometimes.. :) but probably we should be happy to have people around us who are cool to be around :)

Girl: Why do you keep on following me?
Boy: Because you’re so pretty and I think I’m falling in love with you.
Girl: Really? But you haven’t met my friend yet. She’s prettier than me and she’s right behind you.
The guy looked behind him but found no one.
Boy: Are you making fun of me? There’s no one behind me.
Girl: No, but if you really love me, you won’t look back

Nikon or Canon…

emjai7:

D90Its February and hopefully getting my DSLR sometime this month. I’ve been wanting the Nikon D90… been wanting it before it even became available on the market. But now that the times come when I can finally invest in it, I’m starting to have second thoughts… As much as I want the D90 there’s also the D300s, it’s a slightly more upgraded version of the D300, a camera which I’m familiar with and got me hooked onto DSLRs and NIKON. Its a lot of money though to put down for either camera. And as a college student living away from home and on a limited income (provided by my parents and not having much luck with the job hunt) it’s a lot of money that can be used else where.

Yet, as a student pursuing Photography as a major, it’s kind of pathetic to say ISD550 don’t even own a regular point-&-shoot camera at the moment. Only camera I have right now is what’s part of my cell phone. Sad yes. Pathetic, very… that’s what happens when you get your camera stolen (Canon SD550) and your parents don’t think your responsible enough to get a replacement. -_-“Also, my portfolio at the moment is pretty non-existent and I really should be working on it. Plus having all these great photoshoot ideas and nothing to shoot with is killing me!!

Then there’s my next issue, NIKON or CANON. Canon for me wins for point-n-shoots. NIKON wins for DSLRs. But I’ve built up this bias when it comes to DSLRs which is pretty wrong of me EOS 7Dto do since I’ve yet to actually use a CANON DSLR for longer than 5minutes. When you look over the features of either brand, CANON wins no doubt. But when talking to peopleD3002 into photography a lot of them will tell you NIKON is the one to go for. So I’m faced with this second dilemma…Go for the brand you know or see what happens with the other one…

I’m uncertain with what to do now.Is it worth it to now to walk into Samy’s Camera and purchase the Nikon D90 at the end of the month. OR should i continue with my job search, hope I’ll be employed by MARCH then save up til about MAY and  Purchase either the NIKON D300s or the CANON EOS 7D (they pretty much run for about the same price) then?

i just bought a Canon Eos 500D its amature but I am a amature so its all good :D there was a model from Nikon the D5000 but i chose the Canon one cause it fitted my hand better.. I would say do the hand test! hold them both take some pictures in the shop and see which fits better in your hand.. the feel is important :D
